The 540 wasn't one of my favorite bars on Clement St., but if you're looking for a low key place to grab a drink with a friend, this has all that is necessary for such an evening: cheap drinks, check. Slightly standoffish bartender who won't bother you during conversation, check. Within walking distance to other bars where you might want to migrate when 540 patrons get a little too friendly, check. It's grungy, reeks of smoke and booze, but there are always darts to play and fun people watching to be had.Recommended for:

All you have to do is look for the pink elephant and you'll find 540 Club. It's one of the best bars in the area. I love it for the low prices, the cool clientele, the ample space and the nice staff. Several TVs make this a great spot to catch a Giants game.Recommended for:

If you're want to find us in any bar in SF, this will probably be the one. It's not fancy, it's not entirely savory, but it IS the place we feel most at home. People by mostly regulars you'll be welcomed with a smile and good service. Just don't try to order any fruity drinks from the bar. Keep it classic ...or ask for a fine microbrew. At one time they poured the most Chartreuse here than any other bar in the States.

Friendly neighborhood dive in the Richmond. Popular events such as smartypants trivia, goth/new wave and indie rock dj nights, and barbeques make it a standout. The outdoor patio stays open until midnight and is popular with smokers. The slightly dodgy decor is to be expected but the abundance of drink specials, theme nights, and respectable beer selection give it a certain charm.
