This intimate boutique hotel strikes all the right chords of East meets West. Clean lines and modern furnishings are offset by dark wood accent pieces including low-slung chairs and antique lacquered screens that reference the hotel’s Oriental setting. The sheer curtains around the bed can be left open or drawn shut to completely enclose the bed and add an interesting, sort of romantic touch to the room. The surrounding Xintiandi area is popular with tourists, though I tend find it a little eerily devoid of character. Nonetheless, the hotel’s quietly luxurious facilities offer a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Located a few short blocks away from the Langham XTD is the 88 XTD Executive residence. Walking in the lobby you feel like you are in 1930’s Shanghai. The whole hotel is quite small, and they have a loyal business clientele. The rooms are how you would imagine art deco luxury to be. Lovely quaint touches make it really an interesting property. It’s the only hotel I’ve seen with a four-post bed with curtains! There are plenty of wood carvings and other thoughtful touches. Since it’s a small hotel, there is no fitness center, but guests can use the gym at the Langham Xintiandi only a few blocks away. The restaurant is bright and welcoming with a funky state of the art coffee maker-clearly a favorite among businessmen! It’s not uber modern, but a great choice if you came to Shanghai to see China, not the inside of a fancy hotel. It’s literally next door to several restaurants and busy Xintiandi, so you won’t lack for things to do.

This quaint boutique hotel is well located over looking Taipingqiao Park on the east side of the tourist hub known as Xintiandi, home to loads of western and Chinese restaurants as well as many boutiques. The hotel it’s self is reminiscent of what I imagine foreigners homes looked like in Shanghai’s 1920/30’s. The décor is lots of dark woods and very rich fabrics, lots of traditional Chinese silk paintings on the guest room walls. The queen sized four poster bed has curtains that can be completely closed depending on the amount of privacy guests require. The bathroom was a bit small in my option with a shower/tub, something I am honestly not a big fan of. Each room has it’s own private balcony over looking Xintiandi and the park, as well as a very nice dining area for guests with an outdoor seating area with would be perfect to enjoy your breakfast on a sunny Shanghai morning.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at this small boutique hotel. The decor was excellent and service was great. It's convenient located in Xintiandi, so an easy walk into the hustle and bustle of Shanghai.
