A Vegetarian in Paris

Featured Guide
Paris (and all of France, for that matter) is known for its rich, delicious cuisine, and dining out is a favorite pastime for many a Parisian. Unfortunately for vegetarians, almost all of the dishes here are meat-based and even those that aren't often use animal fat or stock to give them that certain je-ne-sais-quoi. While vegetarians who aren't strict about beef broth or rennet in their cheese can easily keep themselves nourished with bread and baguettes, strict vegetarians, lacto-vegetarians, and vegans often find themselves starving in a city that most people celebrate for its food.

I subsisted on a plant-based diet in Paris for many years, and while it wasn't always the easiest of tasks, I managed alright. During my time as an expat in Paris, I got the chance to sample food at many of the city's best veg and veg-friendly restaurants, and became quite familiar with the meat-free selections at Paris's health food stores. I also tried out a lot of Indian restaurants (which almost always have a good vegetarian selection, no matter where you are in the world) as well as a few falafel joints. Here are but a few of my favorites.
