I wish I could give this hostel more than two stars, but when I was there it appeared no one else was. I rang and rang the front buzzer, but no one answered. I had no choice but to move on. What I can say is that the Greektown location is great for young travelers looking to have a good ...

The food at Avec is, truly, the best I've ever tasted. My sister and I sat at the bar, and the bartender was friendly and attentive, helpful with the menu. He chose a bottle of wine for us that turned out to be perfect with the pork shoulder we shared as an entree. The dessert, shortbread cookies with sherbet, was ...

The oldest blues club in Chicago, Kingston Mines also serves up some pretty decent barbecue. Blues bands are showcased seven nights a week, and the bar also has two stages. The crowd is a mix of music fans and DePaul students, since the latter get free admission with their student IDs. Kingston Mines is also open until 4 a.m., so ...

I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to pastrami, having acquired a taste for it while living in New York. It takes a great Jewish deli to do it well. I've had poor experiences with other places in Chicago. Manny's however, is as close to the ideal as I think you can get while being outside of New ...

Carnivale is a colorfully decorated restaurant with a moderately to expensively priced menu filled with Spanish cheeses, Ceviches and dishes like Peruvian chicken. Rice and beans and other sides are a la carte, which can add some heft to the bill. There are some fantastic cocktails, including a delicious sangria and a fun, fruity concoction called Victoria's Secret. The best ...

Just about every time I'm in town, I end up eating at Wishbone. I'm getting hungry just thinking about the place. They serve up what they call, "Southern Reconstruction Cooking," but what most folks just call "darned good" southern-style comfort food. Try the corn cakes, and anything jambalaya. And I love the snarling poodle logo.
