Pulling up in front of this place is pretty awe inspiring. Table Mountain beams down at you imposingly – you really are close to the base here. And the towered facade of the house has a very magical charm. I imagine kids would love it for storybook appeal. I reckon adults would love it too – it’s over a hundred years old but it’s in excellent, sturdy nick and it’s been stylishly furnished. The rooms are luxurious (if a little over the top fabulous), with slick bathrooms. There is also a large pool in the well manicured gardens and a cosy sitting area in the roof which opens up onto an outside deck facing the mountain. The winning feature for me is the enormous round window seat in the front sitting room/library, where the afternoon sun streams in. I could imagine whiling away hours drinking port or reading books here. The breakfast room is also gorgeous and sunny. Friendly staff.Recommended for:

The smell of home cooking greets you as you enter Abbey Manor: if you’re after a homely experience in a quiet residential neighbourhood, this is for you. The house - dating from 1905 - has nine luxurious rooms to choose from, each with its own individual décor but the same modern amenities. No doubt each person will have their favourite – the romantic honeymoon suite with its red sash curtains, or the funky open-plan bedroom/bathroom with its dark wood sleigh bed and Klimt paintings above the headboard. The bathrooms are spacious and pretty, and almost all of them have elegant clawfoot baths. All the rooms have access to an outside area, most with their own private patio. The house is beautifully finished with stained glass windows, pressed ceilings, chandeliers, wooden floors and a cosy living room with bay window and fireplace for enjoying some downtime. There is also an outside pool area for the summer time.
