A comfy place to stay in downtown Portland, the Ace Hotel is a bit ironic bit full of charm. It's close to transit and downtown sites and nightlife... And don't miss the breakfast!

If you're looking for a hotel that's out of the ordinary, the Ace Hotel might hit the spot. Think boutique on a serious budget, with indie attitude and lots of whimsy. Check out the website for off-the-wall community events, and don't forget to grab a cup of Stumptown Coffee to get you on the road.

Featured in Portlandia, the Ace Hotel is the personification of the hipster-alternative hotel. A vinyl record is played in the background while multi-tattooed and multi-pierced individuals leave the elevators with their bikes in tow. The Ace Hotel is also connected to Stumptown Coffee, Portland's beloved local coffee chain.

Fun, funky, hip and best of all affordable.
This is part of a trendy chain of hotels bringing modern style and some sas to the stuffy hotel chain concept. Each hotel is decorated and appointed differently.
The Portland Ace hotel is great. Comfy and friendly.
Keep in mind that it's high style at a low budget. So if they are charging high rates for the dates you want to stay I would reconsider if you can stay at the Hotel Monaco or a Westin for the same price. Ace hotel has thin walls and not any of the luxe details that the higher end hotels have so don't be fooled into paying the same price. I've checked rates here and they have fluctuated greatly.Recommended for:Trendsters

I've never actually stayed at the Ace Hotel, although I've wanted to. The place (and its marketing) throws off this neat hip retro vibe that may or may not translate into a comfortable and quiet room. It's also close to Powell's books and is otherwise conveniently walkable to various parts of an already easily accessible Downtown Portland.
The Ace Hotel also offers perhaps one of the coolest Lobby places to hang out, regardless of ones resident status. I usually buy some coffee at Stumptown (across the next wall), bring it in, settle in, and watch some really interesting people as they flow in and out. Even the folks who work here are part of the entertainment. There's also a quieter, but not so well known mezzanine area for a higher view and a little more contemplation.
The Ace Hotel also sells a selection of various branded products that are available for sale on site or online. I previously noticed a certain nicely priced canvas duffle bag design that i thought would be perfect for a work-related equipment storage need. Of course I could have paid the relatively high shipping costs and been done with it. However, since I was going to be in town anyway, why not check out the merchandise personally, and get a Lobby fix at the same time?

One of the best hotels we've stayed at in Portland. It's in the middle of everything, has fun and funky rooms, and whenever we travel with a large number of people we're always able to get a large room together to share.
Love that there's a Stumptown coffee connected (amazing) and every time I go to Portland I stay here!

One of my favourite places to stay in Portland. Every room is unique, record player in the room, mexican coke in the rooms and nice fast wifi.
Showers here are also amazing. With Clyde Common and Stumptown part of the hotel make it very convenient. Especially if its raining.

Where the cool kids stay...curated chic, stumptown in the lobby, cheeky signs, a real deal photobooth (so authentic!), and bikes as landmarks. Certainly interesting from a design and aesthetic standpoint and a counterpoint to the "W"ization of boutique hotel chic, but definitely not geared for comfort (rickety tub, sub-par bed, and an unsealable draft). But I suppose sacrificing comfort for cool is what it's all about anyway....so if that's your thing, you might enjoy it more than I did.
PS, I really did love the photobooth in the lobby...so no sour grapes here.
