Ai Tre Scalini

Via Panisperna 251, 00184 Rome, Italy
2 reviews

Check out the Roman sayings and old photographs hanging on the wall of this wine bar and restaurant—if, that is, you can make them out through the crowd. But don't let the bar's Roman pride make you think it's old-school. With its long list of small plates (ranging from eggplant parmigiana to couscous), great wine list, good prices, and friendly ...

Beautiful church, but the interior is way more impressive than its exterior. The relics on display...well, everyone makes up their own minds, I guess. Definitely go inside if you're nearby.

    Trajan's Column

0.24 mi from Ai Tre Scalini

One of a few memorable Roman columns, Trajan's towering monument is as impressive as his wartime victories. It's hard to miss when you're walking along the Via dei Fori Imperiali as it's located between Piazza Venezia and the Foro Romano.

In my opinion this is the best area of Rome: a mix of Vintage and trendy, from shops, restaurants and people. It is so relaxing taking a wlk here, doing some fine shopping and then having lunch somewhere. At night it s even better.

Great museum to spend an afternoon in- it's not nearly as crowded as many of the other sites, which allows for a lot less stress. I saw the National Geographic 125th Anniversary exhibition here and absolutely loved it. There are always rotating exhibitions, when I was there they had 2 running. Also they accept student cards for a discount!

    Markets of Trajan

0.24 mi from Ai Tre Scalini

Trajan's Markets might not be on the top of your list when you visit Rome, but it's certainly worth a visit. It has fantastic views of the city, interesting special exhibits and a nice collection. Check the museum calendar to see if any special events will be going on during your stay. For example, last year, they did evening aperitifs, ...

In Piazza degli Zingari, this wine bar/cafe/art gallery is gorgeously run by the Calabrian Margherita, an independent woman business owner who works her tail off and has a great wine list. The crowd is a nice mix of expats and Italians. Rotating art exhibitions add to the fun.

The fountain made by Giacomo Della Porta is situated in the middle of the interesting square and in front of it you can admire a beautiful building that dates back to the Eighteenth Century. The homonym street still preserves some old buildings from the Fourteenth Century with mediaval walls. Palazzo dei Neofiti. Between the square and the street there is ...

Very cool museum about Imperial Fora and Trajan's Market. The museum uses actual Trajan's Market ruins and houses various remains from the Imperial Fora. The self guide tour is very useful. You can take pictures inside the museum as long as you don't use flash.

Wonderful art gallery and library in an astonishing building that also houses Galileo's academy. The entrance fee is a few euro which gives you access to wonderful art and statuary. Splendid and in a great neighbourhood in Rome.

Fun bar. Pub. Like what you'd expect. Energetic bartenders. Rowdy crowd. You'll hear as much English here as Italian. Shots. Pints from the tap. Basically, if you're missing the ol' UK pub experience, this is the place to come. Bartenderess Luisa (or something close to that) is straight-up from England and knows how to pour a proper pint.

On my husband and my third visit to Rome (first for our adult daughter), we decided to stay at a vacation rental instead of a hotel. We had seen Italian markets with inviting produce, but what would we do with food items when we had no kitchen in our hotel room? Since we were planning to buy at least a ...

If you're looking for a present or just a sweet treat for yourself, La Bottega del Cioccolato is the heavenly spot. With gourmet chocolates of various sorts (many of which are pre-wrapped in beautiful containers), there's a form of cocoa candy suitable for any taste. It may not be the cheapest place for chocolate, but it's certainly the prettiest.

Every weekend in the heart of the hip rione of Monti, trendsetters flock to Mercato Monti, a small but well-edited market of local designers, artisans and vintage clothing sellers. Vendors change frequently, but you can expect to find everything from sleek, handmade leather totes, to vintage sunglasses, to handcrafted notebooks. Prices tend to be fairly good, too (I had my ...

    Le Gallinelle

At this little boutique/workshop, every item of clothing is either handmade or vintage. The handmade items are made by the artisans at Le Gallinelle themselves, who both design and sew the blouses, dresses, sweaters, trousers and jackets right there. Like something, but it's not fitting quite right? No worries—the benefit of having in-house seamstresses means they'll alter it for you ...

Le Talpe calls itself a "concept store," which—since the place manages to be so many things at once—is probably the best moniker. The store-cum-gallery promotes up-and-coming artists and designers, particularly Italians, selling everything from their art to jewelry to clothing. Every month, all of the items in the store are switched out and new items (and designers) brought in, often ...
