A small but vibrant little town, Airlie Beach is also the launching pad for the gorgeous Whitsunday Islands. The hostels are mostly party-oriented, and everything along the main drag is either a bar, pub, or souvenir shop. Still, it's a great place to hang your hat on a stopover for an islands or Reef trip, and you'll have plenty do to in the evening.Recommended for:

Airlie Beach is a good base if you're visiting the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. It's filled with young travelers ready to party. On our first day we drank a bucket of Coronas for $5 Australian dollars. Can't beat that! Most of the time you just chill on the beach and taste the myriad of rums at the Rum Bar: http://www.fishdvine.com.au/airliebeach.html
