A nice escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown Madurai, this temple is much smaller than the Meenakshi Temple but worth the trip. You can also hike up the road (or catch a ride) to a second smaller temple and the sacred bathing springs at the top. There are often peacocks and monkeys wandering around the grounds, and giant bats in the trees. It isn't the most magical of temples in South India, but it definitely has its own appeal.
