    Trattoria Monti

Via di San Vito, 13, 00185 Rome, Italy
0.61 mi from Alessandro Palace Hostel

I first came here years back with a couple Roman friends. It's a very affordable, dependable little trattoria with food from the Marche (on Italy's east coast.) A Roman standby and a bit unique in its neighborhood (close to Piazza Vittorio, which has since become Rome's Chinatown.

I had the pistacchio gelato, my tester flavor to gauge the quality of a gelateria, and Ciuri Ciuri passed with two gold stars. It had rich nutty flavor, and a bit of nut crunch. But right now I want to go back (a long haul from San Francisco) and try a coffee granita. I'll have to save it for the ...

Great spot for truly Roman porchetta panini. Er Buchetto is cheap, the service is prompt and it's located conveniently close to Termini. I feel like I had a different experience from those who recommended it to me, as they described getting freshly sliced and curated porchetta panini. While my panino was tasty, he simply handed it to me from a ...

    Gelateria Fatamorgana - Monti

Up for some crazy gelato flavors? Then this is the place to go! I had the deep chocolate and the basil/honey/walnut (yes, basil) and both were delicious. I had a hard time choosing though since the range is so wide from classic mint and chocolate to lobster and vodka (no really!). A bit hard to find as it's in a ...

Located near Piazza di Vittorio, the Palazzo del Freddo is one of Rome's best gelaterie and is often overlooked by tourists in favor of Giolitti or San Crispino. All the locals know it well, however.

A very 'candid' environment for this completely white restaurant, very close to Piazza Barberini. It has big glass window letting give a look outside to the traffic and people passing by. It is very elegant and raw fish is exposed behind the restaurant window. It could be a chance for a romantic date.

Can I give this more stars? I couldn't wait to get all dressed up and go to Harry's Bar. It is at the begining of the Via Veneto across from the American Embassy and near Villa Borghese. It is classy, the drinks are sublime and the atmosphere is eclectic and so interesting.

Tucked into Rome's student neighborhood of San Lorenzo, Formula 1 serves ridiculously cheap and stunningly tasty pizza, as well as an array of fritti, the fried snacks commonly eaten as a prelude to pizza in Rome. An added bonus for racing afficionados is the "Formula Uno" themed decor.

Al Vino al vino is in one of my favorite Roman neighborhoods, Monti. It doesn't disappoint, with one of the best Roman quality/price ratios I've seen in terms of a wine list. The Ciro' by Librandi casa is only 4 euro and many other wonderful vintages are just as affordable by the glass. The salumi and formaggi plates are great ...

This restaurant just opened in 2011... and already earned a Michelin star. No wonder, since its innovative cuisine, which focuses on reinventing Italian classics, is top-notch (think goose breast tartar layered with honey mustard, green apple, and crostini).

Really great Roman food. This is a tiny place, lots of Romans come here, and you won't pay over 10 euro for a plate of pasta. I ate here after a long walk from a wine bar near Termini, and so was absolutely ravenous. There were no disappointments. The decor is a bit grandma's house. Order anything and feel good ...

This wine bar just off the Via Nazionale has an amazing wine list starting from just 15 euros, and a bar menu which pairs things like swordfish carpaccio with a specific regional olive oil. The staff is knowledgable, friendly, and the atmosphere intimate.

Great service, reasonable prices for the area and live music. Located near the Piazza Barberini, Enoteca Barberini is a solid choice for food and drink in this tourist area. The cheapest glass of wine runs four euros. Not too shabby. Say hello to Simone, the bartender, who is both wise and friendly.

There are lots of good restaurants in Rome with outdoor seating, but Strega is on Piazza del Viminale, a very quiet, well almost boring square next door to Teatro del Opera. The food was great, the service was warm and professional. Rome hung around us like a velvet curtain of potential. I had a wonderful time with my friends. I ...
