The Alexis is the place to stay for travelers visiting Seattle. It has extraordinarily posh, modern interiors and exemplary customer service. It's also the top hotel for LGBT couples. They've been offering the Suite On You deal to same-sex couples ever since marriage equality become the law in Washington, which includes a complimentary upgrade, chilled champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries on arrival. The Alexis makes for an amazing, romantic getaway.

This place is pretty pricey, but they do offer discounts and deals, especially during the holidays. Free wine tastings and shoe shines aren’t really necessary…but it’s nice every once in awhile! Plus you’re right across the street from the art museum, and just a few blocks from the market and the waterfront.

Even if you don’t stay here, at least check out the artwork in the lobby and the halls. They rotate it four times a year and it always features gorgeous work by local artists – it’s like a free trip to the museum! If you do stay, all the rooms have original artwork as well. This suite was amazing, I’m pretty sure I could have thrown a party for 100 people and had room to spare! The location is great too. If you turn right out of the hotel you’re just a few blocks from Pioneer Square, which has a pretty good nightlife scene. If you head left you’ll end up in Belltown, which is pretty much all clubs and bars – it gets pretty crazy on a weekend night!

I’m a book nerd, and this hotel shares a space with two of my favorite places in Seattle – Arundel Bookstore and the Library Bistro. If you stay here, you’ve got to stop in Arundel’s; it’s the perfect little indie bookstore with a super helpful staff. And the bistro has great food and awesome drinks – if it’s cold out, definitely try their hot buttered rum. The hotel itself is so elegant, and the rooms are pretty spacious, especially for downtown. I’ve stayed in a few different rooms, and each one has its own personality. They also offer spa services like massages and facials right in your room! And if you’ve got a pet, this place rocks – there’s no extra charge and they give you a doggie bed, water bowl and free treats.

Or lack of it. A recent study by WeatherBill, Inc. shows the Emerald City doesn't even come close to a spot on the list of soggiest cities. In fact, the rainiest place in the U.S. is in the South.
