I was completely surprised by the rooms at Alexis Park motel, located in the Tenderloin/Civic Center area of San Francisco. The location alone suggests that it's not the ideal neighborhood you want to be in when visiting, but for travelers who don't want to go the hostel route, Alexis Park is a budget-friendly no-frills motel that's close to the Polk Street Corridor, Hayes Valley area, City Hall, as well as Little Saigon, known for its many cheap eats. The rooms have been recently remodeled, and seem really nice for a motel. Everything is clean, the carpeting is new, and the rooms even have crown molding. Free parking and free Wi-Fi is also available, and service is really friendly. Again, you definitely need to remain vigilant especially walking around the area at night.

Alexis Park is a motel in the Tenderloin area of San Francisco. It isn’t the most glamorous of neighborhoods and there are certainly homeless about, however some of the best and most affordable restaurants and bars are nearby. Additionally, the Civic Center area is nearby, which is quite lovely during the day.
This motel was recently renovated, which explains why the rooms are nicer than one might expect in this area. Parking is included, Wi-Fi is free and a continental breakfast is served every morning. Service is quite friendly as well. It’s a good option if you’re looking for a place for both yourself and your car.
While I’m not a fan of exterior-facing doors in this neighborhood, this motel seems designed in an optimal way such that all rooms face the enclosed parking area. Still, I’d say it’s better suited for younger travelers without kids.
