Allen and Son is a bit of a drive, but it's worth it. This is the best pulled pork in the universe if you're willing to make the trip. Hush puppies come with everything, and the cole slaw is dreamy.
They aren't open on Sundays and they don't take credit cards, although there is an ATM inside.

While I like the atmosphere of the Chapel Hill Allen & Son better, the Pittsboro location is right by Fearrington Village and the adorable town of Pittsboro, which makes for a fabulous day trip. There is no better bbq in the Triangle than this institution, however, I almost always get a split plate of their classic pulled pork barbecue with a bowl of Brunswick Stew (the North Carolinian version of minestrone, with pork, of course). If you even consider walking out without an order of their peanut butter pie, you are sorely, sorely mistaken.
