If you're looking for something completely different than your usual hotel, then this was literally made for you. The walls are old but the art is new. The building is antiquated, but the quality is elevated. Amidst boring columns of concrete are vibrant works of art, and the unfinished becomes part of the appeal. It's like spending the night in a loft designed by an artist as opposed to the cookie-cutter styles you'll find in virtually every other hotel in town.
There's a community-style breakfast nook (with a six-person table), concrete floors covered with brightly-colored furniture. The bar, Wxyz, is right in the middle of the lobby and practically begs you to invite your friends for a good time. The rest of downtown is a little far away, but that is precisely part of the appeal. It's like spending the night as your sexiest friend's apartment.Recommended for:

The Aloft Dallas Downtown brings some spark to Young Street once the lights go down. Away from the bustle and activity of nearby Commerce and Main Street but still close enough to get there on foot, Aloft is in a perfect location. The lobby is an attraction in itself with the cheerfully illuminated WXYZ Bar, replete with several lounge areas and a pool table. I know several locals who've had gatherings there because it is such a cool, open space. The rooms are cozy--utilitarian, but not Spartan. There's space to sleep, lounge and work without feeling cramped but it's pretty a pretty no-frills approach. I think of it as a budget-friendly version of the W Hotel because the cool factor is still there without the butt-kicking price tag.Recommended for:

I wasn’t really sure what to expect with an ultra-modern building nestled inside the bones of an 85 year old railroad depot on the historic register, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised with the blend of old and new. The design concept was planned around structural pillars, high ceilings, open floor plans and a loft like feel that has recently become popular in some urban areas and walking around I couldn’t help but be impressed with how seamlessly the old and new managed to blend together. The rooms with work stations, welcoming platform beds and clean lines are perfect for people traveling for work but appealing to those that aren’t as well and the location is conveniently close to the convention center, nightlife, downtown and shopping. When you’re ready to take a break, there’s a great outdoor pool and fitness area along with a cash and carry pantry for snacks and quick bites during the day and if you want a distraction, there’s a pool table that was calling my name and a bar open during the evening with food and drinks. If I hadn’t already been there, this would have been added to my list of trendy, must stays.
