Alpine Meadows is on the northern side of Tahoe, so it's easy to reach from Reno airport, and there are plenty of lodging options in Tahoe City and elsewhere. Nearby Squaw Valley gets all the attention on this side of the lake, but I prefer Alpine Meadows for its thinner crowds, great steeps, chutes and trees, and small-resort feel (without actually being small!). There's plenty of corderoy to let 'em rip, of course, but Alpine's best as a place to discover hidden runs and patches of untracked powder.

One of my favorite ski resorts around Tahoe. I first learned to snowboard here and the classes and instructors were excellent. I love the outdoor cafe/bar with huge firepits. If it wasn't for the amazing skiing, I'd be tempted to just relax by those fires all day!

Cheapest tickets for 5-star intermediate skiing terrain/lodge/instruction/quad-lifts/consistent snowfall in Tahoe. Bar none. Alpine is an awesome place for family skiing and also has the more advanced and expert terrain for skiers and boarders looking for that little bit extra.
