Elandsgracht 130, 1016 VB Amsterdam, Netherlands
    9 reviews

Even though they don’t serve French Fries at Burgermeester (Dutch for mayor), they do serve the most delicious burgers! Think burgers with Blonde d’Aquitaine beef and truffle, lamb with red onion compote, wild duck with Chinese cabbage, salmon with grilled asparagus and lemon mayonnaise… Or the vegetarian burger with falafel and grilled vegetables — all of them super tasty, and ...

Taksteeg 7 BG, 1012 PB Amsterdam, Netherlands

At Gartine they grow their own vegetables and make their own pastries, and while you won’t find many egg dishes or even mimosas on offer, the pancakes and french toast have a real reputation for delicious-ness.

    Fuoco Vivo

De Clercqstraat 12, 1052 NC Amsterdam, Netherlands
    2 reviews

Oh, just thinking about this pizzeria makes my mouth water. At Fuoco Vivo, pizzas are made the Italian way: from organic sour dough, baked in a wood oven that is made of volcanic earth. Toppings are simply the best, often organic and imported directly from Italy. No wonder this place is crowded with Italians! It feels as if you’re in ...

    Cafe Winkel

    43 Noordermarkt 431015
    6 reviews

Famous for its apple cake. And rightly so, as it's very good. I'd recommend it for a late morning or afternoon stop, accompanied by some fresh mint tea.

    Pancakes! Amsterdam

    3 reviews

When you're in Amsterdam, especially if it's rainy or cold outside, there's nothing better than stepping inside a warm, cozy cafe and ordering a Dutch-style oven-baked pancakes, maybe with cheddar cheese and apples, accompanied by a glass of beer or cider.

    Sama Sebo

P.C. Hooftstraat 27, Amsterdam, NH 1071 BL Netherlands
    2 reviews

Amsterdam is known for good Indonesian food. After all, the Netherlands once occupied the archipelago under colonial rule. With the days of Imperialism in the past, the two countries now enjoy a healthy exchange of culture, including great cuisine. This is one of the better places to find excellently prepared traditional Indonesian dishes in a refined yet relaxed setting. Situated ...

Albert Cuypstraat 182, 1073 BL Amsterdam, the Netherlands
    2 reviews

The Bazar is a large restaurant in the center of Amsterdam's 'Latin Quarter'. It's all about the middle eastern cuisine, from hummus for breakfast to Turkish yogurt for dessert (plus, all their meat is halal). The food doesn't take too long to arrive and you can be sure that it will be prepared well. The atmosphere is really lively and ...

    Tasty Asia

Amstelstraat 27, 1017 DA Amsterdam, the Netherlands
    1 review

Affordable and definitely tasty. The staff are friendly, service is fast, and there is a good atmosphere. Although it is not a large space, the seating is not cramped either. It feels more like a diner, in a way, but it's a good alternative for when you don't want the typical fast food. They also have outdoor seating.

    The Pancake Bakery

Prinsengracht 191-A, 1015 DS Amsterdam, Netherlands
    12 reviews

Three weeks later, I cannot stop thinking about their hearty homemade sweet pea soup. It was just what the doctor ordered on the early April day we visited. I keep kicking myself for not asking for the recipe.

    The Grasshopper Coffeeshop

    Oudebrugsteeg 16 1012 Amsterdam, Netherlands
    14 reviews

I consider this place to be a complete tourist trap. It's expensive! If you go 5-10 minutes out of this touristy area you will find some really nice small shops with more local residents chillin' having a beer and a smoke. But, if you don't have time to go too far away from the train station, this is a nice ...

    De Kas

Kamerlingh Onneslaan 3, 1097 DE Amsterdam, Netherlands
    7 reviews

Upscale dutch dining may seem like a contradiction in terms, but this is a great little restaurant with an inviting atmosphere and very good food with a social conscience.

    Hotel De Goudfazant

    Aambeeldstraat 10 H, 1021 KB Amsterdam, Netherlands
    6 reviews

I do love me some industrial chic, and Hotel de Goudfazant delivers in spades, shovels and exposed infrastructure. The "Good Pheasant" restaurant features adventurous plates like veal tongue along with less challenging tastes like gnocchi with chioggia beets and goat cheese. I really enjoyed not only the adventure of getting here, but the experience of being here. Exceptional service, great ...

    Maoz Falafel

Ferdinand Bolstraat 67, 1072 LC Amsterdam, Netherlands

OK, this is a chain, and I normally don't recommend chains. But a local took me here for a quick bite before a night on the town and it was amazing. Really great falafel with all sorts of toppings, chilis etc you can put on and amazing fries. Not a lot of seating inside - more of a take out ...

    Damrak 6, 1012 LG Burgwallen-Nieuwe Zijde, Nederland
    8 reviews

I just love the Dutch answer to McDonalds. FEBO is awesome and I gave out quite a bit of Euro to the chain during my year of living there. If you're in the mood for something quick this is the place to go. I can recommend the chicken burger - delicious!!!

    Cafe de Jaren

Nieuwe Doelenstraat 20, 1012 CP Amsterdam, Netherlands
    5 reviews

Excellent grand cafe--good for people-watching, and with a nice terrace outside on the canal. Not too expensive, with better-than-average Dutch-cafe menu: simple sandwiches, some salads, koffie verkeerd (Dutch-style milky coffee) and fresh orange juice.

    Entrecôte et les Dames

    Van Baerlestraat 47, Amsterdam
    4 reviews

Steak, fries and salad. Incredible tarragon sauce for the steak, mayonnaise that's a cut above for the fries (yes, I have been living in Europe for almost 8 years, and I have mayo on my fries. So there, Pulp Fiction.) And to start, fresh, nearly perfect gem lettuce leaves. Other sexy little touches include leaving your bottle of wine on ...
