Amy's is a staple to the Austin's food and culture scene. It's an icon now for the city, especially the cows. The ice cream is very good - I'd describe it as a little creamy. They have a few staple favors like Mexican Vanilla or Belgian Chocolate as well as some seasonal and holiday oriented flavor (pumpkin for Thanksgiving for example). There are two favors that contain alcohol, but they vary. Since the fro-yo craze began, Amy's has a "frozen yogurt" of some kind sometimes. It's not always there probably because of a lad of demand for it. After all it is Amy's Ice Cream! You can have toppings on the smallest Amy's cup or you can have crushn's (treats smashed into the ice cream) for the bigger sizes. The Amy's staff is very friendly and fun-loving, usually trying to flip the ice cream into the cups - great for kids but also just venal entertainment.
One minor thing, if you are a waste-consciences person, Amy's primarily (not using always because I haven't asked a staff if they have a reusable cup)gives away single use cups (I guess you could reuse the spoons - their just plastic).

Took my family here for an after dinner treat! The employee was very friendly and suggested great crush-ins. The location we went to even had a photo booth! For $3, we captured a priceless memory! Highly recommend!

Favorite place for dessert in Austin.Their Guinness or Shiner Bock flavored ice creams are my favorites, and on other days maybe a bit of their sweet cream with some coconut smashed in. They are always up for entertaining as well, and will do some pretty cool ice cream tricks if provoked.

Amy's now has 13 locations across Austin and each of them bring their own uniqueness. One common trait though is their delicious ice cream. It is common to see scoops flying through the air as the ice cream artists create you a sweet concoction. They have their standard 7 flavors on the menu joined by a daily rotating selection of about 6 or so different ice creams.

Richest ice cream I have ever tasted. The Mexican Vanilla is a classic. Definitely the best local parlor for ice cream and thankfully there are lots of locations around town. Plus, you can get pints at the airport packed in dry ice! I like to stay simple with one flavor in a sugar cone, but ordering crush ins is worth seeing the servers pound the ice cream into a slab to work in the nuts & candies.

Amy's Ice Cream is worth the trip for any traveler's except for lactose-intolerant individuals and an Austin institution with a number of store locations throughout the city. Amy's has really unique ice cream flavors and many of them are made with liquor. They also call toppings, crush ins and the staff works them into the ice cream instead of just sprinkling them on top. They have a rotating list of ice creams, but even the classics are delicious.
