Annapolis, the historic capital of Maryland, is a trove of 17th, 18th and 19th buildings crowned by the 1779 Maryland State House, which was briefly the capital of the United States. Strolling through town offers the opportunity to tour various 18th Century homes, while heading to the harbour area downtown reveals a full raft of shopping and eating experiences along with a memorial to Alex Haley, author of Roots, commemorating the spot where his slave ancestor Kunta Kinte arrived in the United States. The U.S. Naval Academy is just outside downtown and available for touring, while eating steamed crabs at a Maryland family style restaurant, that is, sitting packed into park benches consuming quantities of extremely fresh crustaceans, is not-to-be missed. With a lively nightlife and hotels tending towards historic inns, this small but charming American city has plenty to offer for a few days' sojourn.

Can be crowded in summer, but Annapolis remains one of my favourite places in the Chesapeake. There is more to it than just the Naval Academy, though that is worth a look.

Annapolis is a college town dominated by the US Naval Academy, which is a beautiful campus. The surrounding area is pretty well off and makes for a pleasant stay if you have business in DC or the area.

We came here to walk around the Naval Academy. The city is the capital of Maryland so there is much more to see.

Quaint and historical East Coast city not far from Baltimore, making it a nice day-tripper opportunity. Definitely see the old buildings and drive around the Naval Academy.

A very interesting city to visit and explore. Close enough to Washington DC to see both, so I think it's a good idea to stay in the small town of Annapolis and drive into DC and visit everything there instead of paying for pricey hotel rooms in DC. Annapolis is on the water and home of the US Naval Academy. Lots of history to see in this town and plenty of pubs and restaurants to explore.

This is a great little town to walk around especially by the water. Good place to visit in the Summer. We like to choose this in place of visiting DC, which we've done too many times.

Charming and very tourist friendly. Fascinating history and colonial architecture. We really enjoyed wandering the shops and waterfront. Lots going on. You can also take a tour of the naval academy.
