Florence's main cathedral. It is built in the Gothic style and took more than 200 years to complete. It is built in the basilica style and has a massive dome which dominates the structure. The dome itself is really an engineering marvel and required the development of new building techniques to ensure the cement set correctly without collapsing.

The Arno is the river through Pisa and Florence (and many other towns). When I land in a new town, I look for river because there's likely to be good running along them. In Pisa, there are a couple of decent miles to run here, and when you want to go back, find a bridge and run back on the ...

This is one of those places like the Eiffel Tower ot Empire State Building that, while touristy, you have to check out if you are in Florence. Aside from being touristy, it actually is quite beautiful and is the heart and center of Florence, which is a beautiful walking city.

I enjoyed the Galileo level of the museum. A great collection of instruments that were invented to explore time, space, earth, etc. Very fascinating. Interactive exhibits are fun and multimedia presentation is very helpful to understand the science they were studying back then. Good for adults and great for kids. Open on Mondays.

The Medici chapel was stunning, for both its marble interiors and marble statues. Both the Chapel of the Princes and the New Sacristy are worth a look, particularly for the impressive Michelangelo statues in the New Sacristy.
