Former great Roman city. Arles has one of the best collection of Roman ruins in Europe. The amphithetre and baths are very impressive. An absolute must see for history buffs traveling in and around Provence

This cute town in Provence is home to some impressive Roman ruins, including a large colosseum. If you're into Roman ruins, this is a nice place to see them. It's a good day trip from both Aix-en-Provence and Avignon via train and tickets are very inexpensive. Once you see the ruins, take some time to wander around, there are cute French cafes (naturally) and other cool sites that you might stumble into. If you're into unique or traditional kitchenware, there are several small shops that sell very authentic French dish sets that are made by local artisans.
