Anthony Bourdain said that this place should be a UNESCO world heritage site...and I agree with him. This place is the holy of holies when it comes to Italian sandwiches.
Try their meatball sub..if you have nothing you need to do for the rest of the day. Their fresh bread and home cured meats are also incredible.

I can see why this place always has a line. And it's not just because of their cured meats. As a vegetarian, I didn't think I'd be able to eat anything at this place but I was proved wrong. Not only do they have vegetarian options, their vegetarian options are amazingly delicious. Loved the eggplant sandwich as well as their veg roast.Recommended for:

Rule #1: Get there before 11:30AM if you don't want to run the risk of not getting a sandwich because they've run out of bread. Chef Mario Batali's father's salumeria and Italian deli is *that* popular. Rule #2: The staff with NY attitude ara hilarious, but be prepared for some joshing around. Rule #3: Definitely take the free samples that they're handing out while you wait in the long, long line to avoid being famished by the time you get to the front. Rule #4: Take the sandwich makers' advice about which cheese to pair with which of the house-cured meats. Not that they aren't all awesome, but some go together better than others.Recommended for:

This cured meat shop in Seattle's Pioneer Square district comes care of the Batali family, the very same that gave us star chef Mario Batali. Salumi has, bar none, the best salami, pepperoni and other deli slices in the Pacific Northwest. They spice, cure, smoke and dry all their meats in-house, so the smell in the shop is amazing. People literally line up around the block to get lunch at Salumi. The meat, cheese and antipasto plates are a must. The more variety, the better.Recommended for:

When I saw the line I said to myself "This better be worth it". And it was! I've never had salami that tasted so good before and I definitely realized why they had such a huge line up. We had the tasting platter and two sandwiches. Unfortunately we didn't get to try the pasta or the meatballs, they were sold out!
