Even if you can't stay at Arun Residence, you should go here to Amorosa bar on the third floor for the sun set or to The Deck Restaurant on the first. The hotel, bar, and restaurant are on the banks of the Chao Phraya, and when the sun sets Wat Arun is lit up, and from across the river you can almost see the porcelin (that was used as ballast in Chinese ships) and later used to decorate the stupa. This is a beautiful hotel with a great view from all six rooms, but the most popular room is the Roof Garden Suit, so if you want to stay there, book ahead. This place used to be a ware house and was renovated in 2005 into this simple little hotel and the owners and operators just opened another one called Sala Arun: http://www.salaarun.com/ Hotels like this that mix modern amenities with Thai art and history really impress me.

Stayed there a few nights. Very nicely situated place from which you can visit the old center of bangkok. Rooms are nice and decorated with style, but it was hot and humid if i recall correctly.

Before I visited Arun residence I kept hearing that it had a great view of wat arun. I was wondering what the fuss was about as you can see Wat Arun from a number of locations along the river. But it was definitely a one off experience I had sitting at the bar, watching the sun set with Aat Arun lighting up the skyline. Not only that but you are 4 stories up so you really have a nice perspective. I haven’t even started on the actual rooms! They are beautiful. I think it’s amazing that you can stay in a place like this in such a central location. A standard room is 4000 baht and is two levels. You have to walk up a little staircase to get to your bed. I find this so romantic and intimate. There is beautiful dark wood used throughout the building. If you want to pay more for an amazing view of you know what there is also the suite room with a balcony.

I highly recommend grabbing a drink on the deck to see Wat Arun at sunset. It is absolutely stunning!

Six suites at this boutique-style hotel with an exceptional view of Wat Arun, Temple of the Dawn. The somewhat basic, though comfortable rooms are compensated for by exceptionally friendly and gracious service from the staff. See sepaarate review for the Deck by the River restaurant.

Description:

The Arun Residence is hidden down a shophouse lined streen in the center of the old city. It's a boutique hotel that was renovated in 2005 from a the low-rise 1920's Sino-Portuguese style building. With a wooden deck restaurant, rooftop bar, library, and six rooms, it has a wonderful view of Wat Arun, and is located on The Chao Praya’s edge.
