For anyone desperate for a coffee and a seat, you could do worse than the Starbucks in Shinagawa Station. It's on the second floor and armed with large, dark wood picnic tables to accommodate impromptu graphic lunch meetings with the boss man. Everyone is in dark suits and on a deadline. Punto Cafe

    2 reviews

Nice, very simple, family-run cafe serving really good food. I especially like their "Eastern Breakfast". They are the only cafe in town that doesn't add 10% service charge, so if you're looking for a more inexpensive option, Punto is it.

    Serendipity Cafe

A nice artsy cafe serving drinks and nice food at reasonable prices considering you are inside the fort. If it's not meal time, get a pot of tea and flip through some of the books they've produced at their publishing house.

    Margaret's Cafe

The best egg tart in town. It is always full, people are waiting in line outside. You'll see why when you have the first bite. The crust is pie-like, different than others in town.

This is the night market right next to JV's Hostel, one of the nicer hostels in Taipei. Although not nearly as big as the Shilin Night Market, this place still has an excellent selection of food and shops.
