    8 reviews

If you're making your way between Denver and Aspen, consider taking the scenic route over 12,095-foot Independence Pass. Driving there, you'll wind through classic alpine countryside: soaring pines, shimmering aspens, icy lakes and reservoirs, rocky ridgelines, plus various trailheads and the historic mining town of Leadville. I grew up in the Midwest and these were my first mountains, and beautiful peaks they are. There are lots of hiking and backpacking trails in the park. If you are going to hike, be sure to go in prepared.

    Aspen/Snowmass Ski Resort

This is my favorite place to ski. We've gone to Snowmass for years, and love it. It's been a little sparse the past few years, probably because people have been worried about the snow quality (it was perfect this past December), and it is definitely very pricey.

My favorite section of the Aspen/Snowmass Ski Resort is, hands down, Aspen Highlands. It's popular with locals, with amazing side-country skiing, steeps, and powder. It's challenging and gorgeous--a perfect ski hill.

I don't know if they still have the Powder Pandas, but I was one at 2 years old. Only good memories on this mountain while I was taught how to ski.

This is one the local's favorites for getting a great cardio hike and then getting a reward at the top with the views of Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley. If you have Fido with you, keep him on a leash - otherwise test your endurance at 9,000+ and see how you hold up. If you are on a mountain ...

Built by Jerome B. Wheeler during the heyday of Aspen's silver mining history, the Jerome bar is famous for it's grand architecture, decore, and it's denizen. Sidle up to the bar polished by the elbows of Gary Cooper, John Wayne, and the authentically wild Hunter S. Thompson. When I visited long ago, my friend and I made the acquaintance of ...

I come here to do a trail run. Getting up to the trail nearly killed me due to the altitude. But once I got up the mountain, the trail was very nice - wanders along the side of Aspen mountain through wildflowers and forest, with nice views of the town from above.

If you're fortunate enough to be in town for the X-games, head on over! Sometimes can be cold and a pretty big crowd, but TV can't quite communicate how high these guys actually go! A really easy trip from town to Buttermilk - and plenty of public transport. Great experience everyone should see once. Be sure and bring your Red ...
