The suite was a lucky draw at the Mahana. Upon walking into the room, the first thing we saw was floor to ceiling windows with a dizzying panorama of ocean 5 stories below. The way this particular room was laid out amplified the sense of hovering over the water. Other rooms we looked at were less ornate and lacked the embellishments that this particular private condo had. The bedroom itself was all right, but in the end it’s a place to sleep. The bathroom had a really hot shower (hard to find on Maui) and a small but very quality kitchen. The floor plan of every room is the same, but for some reason this place was special. We really liked the goofy, fun front desk help. There’s no in-house dining, but plenty of options a short walk away.Recommended for:Luxury Travelers

If proximity to the Pacific Ocean is what you're looking for, then look no further than the Aston Mahana at Kaanapali. This beachfront condo resort is so close to the ocean that its beach can only fit one couple walking hand-in-hand, or of course, two couples walking piggy-back. This property feels less like a hotel and more like a college dorm, with each room decorated as the owner sees fit, which usually translates into bamboo furnishings on top of twenty year old shag, green carpet. But with unobstructed ocean views, a friendly staff and an on-site hot dog stand, you really can't go wrong with the Austin Mahana for your next vacation.
