Located in Kensington, Astor's Hyde Park has dorms and private rooms, so it's a great budget choice if you'd like to be near the big museums and the park, whether you like a little more personal space or don't mind ten others in the room with you.

Astor's is a totally decent hostel in very central London. There's a kitchen, free Wifi, and, all importantly, it's clean. If you aren't travelling with a laptop, there are also computers in the lobby. I loved the cheap fast easy grid on airport transport in the entrance...an excellent way to gauge your options for getting out of town according to depth of pockets and patience. An excellent option for anyone traveling on the cheap and looking to be treated like a human.

In central London, the low-end backpackers Astor’s Hyde Park is one of four of a group of hostels in town that offer fairly clean, safe and inexpensive accommodations on the superb Bayswater district in central London. The hostel is set on a beautiful, but extremely old, screaming for renovation townhouse which offers mixed and non-mixed dormitories with en-suite bathrooms that are rather unpleasant. The house has a small reception, a computer room, a small seating area, and laundry facilities; TVs are available in the seating area and the kitchen. The reception team is continually irregular and unwelcoming at times. A self-catering kitchen with plenty of pots and pans are available, a modest breakfast is included and internet Wi-Fi is available, but only free for 40mins per stay. The house is off of Bayswater Road, by Queensway Tube Station on the Central line, literally across from Hyde Park, and on a great gateway for major attractions in London.

Truthfully, I think this place is 3.5 stars, but I am willing to round up. It is well located near sights and public transportation. The rooms were clean and the atmosphere was friendly. The woman at reception was happy to answer our questions. There is no elevator, but plenty of stairs. This hostel is ages 18-35 only, so keep that in mind too.

Clean, comfortable, and cheap-- what more could you ask for from a hostel in a major city like London? Killer location? Sure, they'll throw that in, too!

The Astor Hyde Park is, like a number of hostels in London, part of a group of hostels by similar names (e.g. Astor Kensington). Their Hyde Park branch is, far and away, the nicest of the bunch. It's also the newest, which means everything is modern (good security systems, key-card access to the rooms, nice, clean ensuite bathrooms). Private rooms can get a little pricey (and hey, it's a hostel. A private room ensuite in London is going to be expensive *anywhere*), but if you're willing to share, in true hostel spirit, you'll find yourself in a comfortable bed for ~20 pounds.

Sure, there are cheaper options out there, but for the level of cleanliness in such a fantastic location, you won't do better.

Bonus: If the London weather gets too wet for you (as it did for me), they have a great entertainment room for watching movies and using the (free) wifi.

Description

The flagship of the Astor hostel group, the Hyde Park hostel's list of amenities includes free breakfast, coffee and tea all day, laundry facilities for a fee, free WiFi, computers, a luggage room monitored by CCTV. The hostel kitchen is equipped with basics like oil and salt and a rotating larder replenished by leaving guests. The next group activity is usually posted on the kitchen whiteboard. Free locks for bunks (£5 deposit) as well as towels and adapters are available at reception. Double rooms start at £45 per person and dorms at £18. The 1793 building offers some charming touches, like a skylight in Room 2, and ornate dark wood staircase. Most rooms, whether ensuite or dorm, have ensuite bathrooms. The Hyde Park will be one of the first London hostels to use touchscreens in each room to update guests on bar crawls and other essential information.
