206 Washington Street Southwest, Atlanta, GA, United States
Atlanta is a city full of distinctive and historic buildings, but none may be more iconic than its gold domed capitol building. Finally completed in 1889, the building is hailed as an excellent, still-standing example of 19th century style architecture, built after Atlanta became the state’s permanent capital in 1877 following the Civil War during the south’s reconstruction period. Of course the site is busy daily with Georgia legislators and the office of Georgia’s governor, but the Georgia State Capitol building still opens each day for public access between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, along with the Georgia Capitol Museum.
