1071 Piedmont Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30309-3761
The beautiful Piedmont Park is Atlanta’s equivalent to Central Park, a 185-acre paradise in the middle of a sprawling midtown metropolis. Perhaps taken for granted today as a place for concerts, city events, a beautiful skyline view or even a simple dog walk, Atlanta’s biggest park was not always owned by the city and open for the public. Piedmont Park began its life as a forest before being cleared for farmland; later, and maybe most notably, the park was purchased by the Gentlemen's Driving Club for horse racing and later as an exposition and festival site. Between May and December each year, history tours are conducted every Saturday at Piedmont Park, where visitors can walk through the park’s transformation from farmland to Atlanta’s most famous recreation area.
