Its a great place for all how likes to get a first impression of a city from above. A Symbol of Expo History for the world and especially for the construction of architecture. Very impressive also from inside. There are always new exhibitions inside and a few restaurants beside.

On my first visit in Brussels some decades ago we saw this and apparently built for the expo in 1958, huge unique silver structure, a landmark but one visit is enough :0

it's really not that great, basicaly just a nice structure outside the city in an area where ugly soviet style buldings are found...,but it's still an icon.
so go there make photos and check it on your list..

Part of the history behind the Atomium is it was made for one of the World's Fair. You can go inside the Atomium to get views of Brussels from above but for a fee.Recommended for:History Buffs

The atomium is a structure that looks like an atom particle but 165 million times bigger, built for the world expo in 1958. Its now one of the most popular tourist attractions, featuring exhibition spaces, a restaurant at the top, and an observation deck for some of the best views of the city. Its said on a clear day you can see all the way to Antwerp, but with Brussels reputation for overcast skies, I doubt that happens very often. I love a good observation deck so was suitably impressed, and of course there were lots of photo opportunities.

So much bigger than the picture would have you believe. I didn't go in since it's a bit pricey for nothing much. 4 stars, though, is mostly for the surrounding area which has at least 4 separate parks, each with a different feel and personality. A great place to spend a morning or afternoon relaxing.

One of Brussels biggest attractions it was built as a part of the 1958 World Expo.
The atomium is supposed to represent the shape of an atom. Go up to the top grab some food at the restaurant in the top sphere and make sure to take a couple pictures of Brussels.
