This funky little gem along South Congress has been locally owned for ages. They boast this on their sign, have quaint rooms at affordable prices, and offer an amazing location in Austin for exploring all aspects of the city.Recommended for:

A staple of Austin's culture, the location is incredible right on South Congress near downtown, the rooms are all decorated different, and in genera,l a very eclectic and funky theme. Rooms are a great price and the hotel is a fun place all on it's own.Recommended for:

The Austin Motel is a jumble of color with a kidney-shaped pool and plenty of little nooks to get lost in besides your room, which will be lovely. There may be no gentler entry into Austin's Congress Avenue scene than with plenty of time - maybe a long weekend? - booked into the Austin Motel. Guests can walk to tons of bars, cafes, clubs, and get a real taste of Austin culture. There's shopping nearby, too - but an afternoon matinee at the Continental Club watching Redd Volkheart play guitar will be far more enriching. I dare you to walk all the way to Magnolia Cafe - it's downhill on the way back to the Austin Motel.Recommended for:

Austin is in a continual state of flux these days, but one thing will always stay the same: the Austin Motel will always be hip. It's a refreshing stalwart of the city's local charm, with a hodgepodge of colors and eclectic designs characterizing each of the rooms (no two are alike) and a 1950s era kidney-shaped swimming pool shaded by old-growth trees, all just a few feet away from the rapidly changing and expanding tourist attraction that is South Congress Avenue. One noteworthy highlight--the adjacent Snack Bar cafe provides guests with delicious, small plate specialties (all natural and organic) for breakfast, lunch dinner and even in-room deliveries.Recommended for:

What a fun place to stay on a budget!
Great location for the price. This renovated funky motel really adds to the experience of Austin.
Lot's of food trucks walking distance and 6th isn't that far away. All in all a fun place to stay with friends when touring Austin.

A wonderfully funky mid century hotel just outside of downtown Austin. Back in the 70s it's rumored that this place used to rent rooms by the hour. It's changed a lot since there. Now, it's fun and funky with an attached restaurant and it finds itself along a fun strip of shops and watering holes. Not far from the Continental you'll find that this a great place to rent a few nights of stay if you are coming for SXSW. Sure, it's a bit further out than some venues but I think you'll find the extra room a breath of fresh air.

If you are looking for an offbeat place to stay, you've found it! It is nicely located and walking distance from a lot of restaurants and nightlife. It isn't too far from the Bat Bridge. The rooms are very small, so if you are looking for something luxurious this isn't it, but it is a fun place to stay. They have a vintage looking swimming pool and unusual decor.

It's hip, it's ironic... don't let that stop you from staying! It's a lot of fun too! The Austin Motel is the epitome of Austin. If you embrace the "Keep Austin Weird" idea, this is the hotel for you! The employees are so nice and well, bearded. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay again. The location is ideal. It's located within the SoCo neighborhood. Check it out, y'all!
Oh word of advice, make a reservation, this place books up fast!

“God Bless Johnny Cash” reads the bumper sticker on the old Volvo parked in one of the mini-garages next to a room at the Austin Motel. This motel definitely defines the "Keep Austin Weird" motto of many South Austin hipsters. I loved the wall murals in the rooms. Accommodations are basic, but comfy and the hotel staff is among the friendliest I've encountered.
