Bagdad Theater is a good pub to grab drinks with friends or to see a movie. It is based in the hipster area along Hawthorne Boulevard. The sign, especially lit up at night, is visible and is a well known landmark in Portland.Recommended for:

This is one of the Mcmenamins pubs that sits on one of the most fun funky streets in Portland. Here you can down some great beer, have a killer pizza and watch a movie. Afterwards you can wander down this fun street and take in the fun atmosphere

This review is only for the street-side cafe on Hawthorne.
It was time for lunch and considering my love of micro-brew (IPA, Porter, and Stout especially), there are just too many choices here in the City of Roses. I considered Nick's, but all the older guys (like me) who were sitting quietly in their booths, reminded me too much of wasted hours in a Midwest bar in the dead of winter. I ultimately settled on the Bagdad as it looked architecturally interesting and I had a previous positive experience at a sister McMenamins location.
After maneuvering the somewhat confusing seating arrangements, I sat down and was immediately greeted. A somewhat sweet and satisfying Porter was forthcoming, as was a delicious rice bowl with chicken and curry. I suppose I could have gone with my old standby of a burger and fries, but as Gayle knows, I'm just full of surprises.
The service was good and the food came out quickly. And it's a cool place to hang out. The next time, I'd like to try a movie with my beer. My only complaint is that the road noise off Hawthorne is capable of drowning out even the most determined conversations.
