    Neka Art Museum Ubud

    5
    4 reviews

A lovely colonial house and gardens worth a visit. It gives you the idea of the main Balinese artists and works of art, their evolution throughout the years. It was great to understand a bit more of what we see on the main temples of the island, sculptures, symbolism of different icons, the kecak dance tradition etc.

Ubud in Bali is a small town or a big village but an important destination for people who like Arts and Crafts . Our first stop there was Ubud Hindu Temple ,a classical style built monument with amazing stone carvings of Hindu Gods . The carvings depict the local culture and is a great treasure . All over Ubud you ...

    Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary

    4
    84 reviews

The monkeys might be pure, banana-seeking evil (insurance attached to your ticket covers accidental death and dismemberment whilst in the Sacred Monkey Forest!) but darned if they aren't cute, and the small sylvan patch they occupy towards the south end of Ubud's main drag is nothing if not beautiful. Featuring temples overgrown with lush green, and enormous banyan trees sweeping ...

    91 reviews

Whether you are an ocean lover or a Hindu devotee, there is no doubt that Tanah Lot has a powerful spiritual draw on anyone lucky enough to lay eyes on this special holy place. While the temple itself is amongst the most beautiful of Bali's pura worship sites, the connection with the turquoise sea is what really sets this place ...

    Barong Dance

    4
    18 reviews

This is the other Balinese dance performance that I love. It's a sacred dance full of drama and is the classic tale of good versus evil. The main characters are Barong (a lion) and Rangda (the most evil looking witch) The performance ends in a trance performance with men stabbing themselves with daggers (keris). Don't worry, no blood.

They only perform once everyday 20 mins before sunset and the show last for an hour through the sunset. Make sure you pick the right seat, if not you will not be able to see the sun set at the horizon. Uluwatu is known for its beautiful sunset. The seats filled pretty fast, make sure you came here on the ...

Deus Ex Machina - Temple of Enthusiasm

    3.5

I couldn't tell if this was a motorcycle shop, a surf shop, an art gallery, bar, restaurant or just a very fun alternate reality. I think the idea is that it is all of these things, and it succeeds in doing just that. I'm not a biker myself, but I liked it here. Beautiful show room.

Also a gallery and cultural center, set on beautiful grounds with several traditional buildings and a nice display of works: traditional Kamasan paintings, Batuan-style work and the only place in Bali to see works by German artist Walter Spies. You can also see local children practicing traditional Balinese dancing (check for times) and during gamelan practice. They have many cultural ...

    Uluwatu Temple

The temple itself is lovely and you have to visit. That said, the place is so overrun with tourists that you'll really have to struggle to focus on the beauty. This would have been an incredible place to visit 20 years ago... but tourism has taken its toll.

We ate dinner at a restaurant on Kuta Beach. The food was superb, and the beach was a bit less than pristine. We took a walk on the beach and there were parts that were somewhat dirty, but most of the beach was very nice.
