I love watching the activity on the river. Better yet, I enjoy catching a river express taxi and cruising up and down the river. You can link to the sky train system at some spots which makes getting around quite enjoyable and efficient.

The river is a lifeline to the city and exploring it reaps rewards if you escape back into the khlongs (canals). She isn't clean and she isn't really pretty but she is a center of activity -- though easy to curse her for breaking the city in two and making the traffic situation even worse.

Must-do in Bangkok, take a river boat across to the 3 Wats (Temples), see some bridges, and enjoy the city views. Just don't pay attention to the brownish water and debris in the river.

We took a boat from the Grand Palace to the Wat Arun Temple and it really was a fantastic experience even if it was so short. I've always enjoyed seeing cities from the water and Bangkok was no different - definitely take advantage of the many boats that cruise it's waters.

It's a river...in a city...so, you can probably imagine it relatively well. It's no Seine, other than the fact that Bangkok is divided into two by the river, and can used to easily determine where you are. Several restaurants have a nice view overlooking the river, and there are boats that cross and navigate throughout.

Rent a longtail water taxi. Bargain hard for a good rate, something like 1000bht round trip. Ask to be taken to the orchid farm. That's not their usual route so it will be less crowded. sit back and enjoy real life on the BKK river. please tip at the end, 200bht, it makes up for the hard bargaining you did at the beginning. oh, and don't buy a cola from the boat lady - they have a deal with all the taxi drivers who make a commission on that. boo. bring your own drinks. :)

Take a river tour go get a different perspective of Bangkok. There are a few tour operators offering different types of river tour (afternoon cruise is usually better because of the high temperature).
