Banteay Srey

National Road No. 6a, Siem Reap, Cambodia
2 reviews

Some 38 kilometers northeast of the main body of the Angkor complex, this isolated temple might be one you’re tempted to pass up, but don’t even consider it. Though tiny by Angkor standards, the stone-carving at this temple is among the world’s most exquisite. Its name, which translates as ‘the Temple of the Women’, refers in fact to the fineness ...

What an interesting place to visit! The best way to go is to hire your own wooden boat for usd 30 and you can go around the floating village at your own pace. During rainy seasons, water level is higher.

A popular place in the outskirts of town for catching the sunset. But it's a good 10-minute climb up a steep flight of steps before you're rewarded with a view of the surrounding countryside. Not a 'must do' in my opinion but as a stopover after visiting Bantey Srei, it's not bad.

    Bayon Temple

I spent a lot of time walking around in the Bayon Temple section of the complex. It's a mixture of pillars, blocks and ruble with exquisite carvings in various stages ofndecay. Lichens and oxidation covers the surface of the multitudinous amounts of the serene faces. I was surprised at how freely you can walk through the area.

Floating Village and Flooded Forest We wanted to see a floating village which is pretty much a village on stilts, it was about a half hour tuk tuk ride out of Siem Reap. It was an amazing sight. Seeing the people go about their daily lives in a home above water was such a learning experience. They have floating shops ...

Ta Prohm is beautifully unrestored. Though you can debate whether or not this is the right thing to do for the sake of preservation, there is no question that the vines and trees here give the temple a romanticism that you won't find elsewhere (unless you visit Beng Mealea -- which I highly recommend). A good place to get your ...

A bit sterile and can feel a bit like a basement but you have to visit the Elephant Bar just for the history. Better than its counterpart in Siem Reap -- a bit busier and the ambience is good enough that you could almost convince yourself that you are following in the steps of historians and archeologists.

The bar that STARTED the Siem Reap Pub Street phenomenon way back in 1998, hip little Angkor What? is a fantastic place to start or end (or both) a night out in SR. Their bucket/pitcher mixed drink specials are good value, and it's one of the places in town virtually guaranteed to have a party going late, with ample possibility ...

I love all the outdoor seating there is here - on a nice night, you can grab a table outside at a restaurant and watch the nightlife go by all around you. We ate at a pretty decent thai restaurant, but the cuisine along the street is pleasantly varied. There's also a busy market during the day, but, as always, ...
