My absolute favorite restaurant in the city! I have loved pretty much everything I've ever eaten here, and it gets bonus points for not being quite as expensive as some of the other SF hot spots. I like that the dishes are designed to be shared and that there is a little bit of Eastern European flavor in every dish. The atmosphere inside is warm and comfortable and the staff is always super friendly. They take walk-ins, which is great, because getting a reservation can sometimes be difficult. They don't have a full bar but do have a good beer and wine selection, and if they have the carob mousse dessert with goat cheese, you must order it! Also, the bread!!Recommended for:

one of many popular restaurants in the Mission, we were lucky enough to walk in on a fri night and get bar seating shortly after they opened. the service ended up great as the bartenders were extremely familiar with the menu, regularly refilled our drinks, and made sure the food came steadily. the house bread comes from tartine bakery and is fabulous. i'd be happy just eating the bread with a glass of wine for dinner! we shared a salad with thinly sliced onions and turnips, typical fresh california. i made the mistake of ordering something i wasn't familiar with- instead of getting warm bread w/ cheese, we got a bread layered with baked fish eggs. i've had something similar before, but it's not to my liking (bottarga). the entrees were well done. i had the chicken paprikash, which apparently is a house specialty. it is done as an eastern european dish, and definitely tasted like stuff i had eaten at an eastern european restaurant in B'more. my GF had the rock cod dish which was in a light broth and tasty. finished with a vanilla bean ice cream with rhubarb tart which was delicious. i barely left a crumb on the plate. i'll gladly come back though next time will try different entrees...
