In my opinion it's the coolest place to stay and go out in Santiago. It's filled with both locals and tourists, cool bars and restaurans, art galleries and cafés and it's not too far from the airport.
Patio Bellavista was a highlight of my last visit to Santiago. It's sort of a posh mall but with restaurants, bars and clubs. Me and my friends went twice to this place called Backstage, a very cool jazz bar with some great live shows. Both times we had what was said to be the largest pizza in all of Santiago, if I'm not wrong it was something like 60 centimeters in diameter! Make sure you (and hopefully 7 of your friends) order this one, you can each choose a flavor, up to 8 flavors in the same pie!

In the evening go to Bar Constitución in Bellavista neighborhood. Great music, drinks and people. You can get there earlier and hace a nice dinner in one of the many restaurants in Constitución street.

This is one of the nicest areas of Santiago to just walk around in. The houses are colorful, the restaurants are top notch, the street art is fascinating, and the fact that it is home to a Pablo Neruda house (there are a number around Chile; see also Casa de Isla Negra and La Sebastiana) is, for me at least, a great bonus. Plan at least a full afternoon here.Recommended for:

Barrio Bellavista is the major bohemian section of Santiago. When one thinks of Barrio Bellavista, one can't help but think of the late Pablo Neruda, the Noble Peace Prize winner who lived here for most of his life.
