Located about 45-minutes from Aspen, Basalt is charming little town with a smattering of good restaurants, galleries, and outdoorsy activities liking fishing, boating, and mountain biking. It also has a good variety of lodgings, especially short-term rentals if you're looking for a home away from home.

Aspen in the Fall, doesn't get much better! Check out Maroon Bells; Independence Pass; Pearl Pass; and Crystal Mills. Go out of your way to see these places - you won't regret!

We spent the weekend in Carbondale and the valley. A quaint town with charm and character. Once you get off of Hwy 82 and head towards Main Street the small town feel is evident and appreciated!

Snowmass is just a hop, skip, and a jump from Aspen with great hills to ski down. It's a cute little village that you should definitely take the opportunity to visit.

Going to have to disagree with Travis about it being the best-all-around mountain. It's probably one of the biggest, maybe the biggest, resort in all of Colorado if you count the myriad trails that go in and out of bounds in the backbowls but I don't think it's the best deal in Colorado by far. The tickets are ludicrously overpriced ...

Resolution Bowl is basically heaven on earth! It's the best of the summit county resorts but the least known.

I spent a lot of time here as a kid. It still has this rough and tumble miner charm that is often washed away in the ski resorts nearby. Don't miss a trip to Turquoise Lake, the Fish Hatchery or a steak at Quincy's.

Minturn is a diamond in the rough. If you are staying in the Vail/Eagle area, it is a small local town just a few minutes up the road with one main street, but lots of character.

Here's an interesting little hamlet on the way to or from Independence Pass. The setting is beautiful as it's right at the edge between the forest and the valley and next to a very nice lake. If you need to pick up drinks or some snacks, the general store will service your basic needs. Take a walk or drive around ...
