This restaurant just opened in 2011... and already earned a Michelin star. No wonder, since its innovative cuisine, which focuses on reinventing Italian classics, is top-notch (think goose breast tartar layered with honey mustard, green apple, and crostini).

    Trattoria Monti

0.2 mi from Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore

I first came here years back with a couple Roman friends. It's a very affordable, dependable little trattoria with food from the Marche (on Italy's east coast.) A Roman standby and a bit unique in its neighborhood (close to Piazza Vittorio, which has since become Rome's Chinatown.

Obviously there is great food all over Rome, but this place is a must go. The service and food is top notch. Vicenzo (operator) is a wonderful man who will make your trip worth coming too. We went 2 times in one week we enjoyed it so much. Things to try, Gnocchi, Carbonara and the lasagna. They usually will give ...

    Shawarma Station

0.09 mi from Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore

I was pleasantly surprised with Shawarma Station. The food was tasty, the space is nice and there's entertainment playing on the television. It's a really comfortable place to grab a bite to eat with a group or solo. With lots of options, most notably the shawarmas, there's something for everybody. Prices are reasonable. My simple shawarma came stuffed with meat ...

Il Gelato di San Crispino - Trevi Fountain

0.78 mi from Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore

My wife and I enjoyed our visit to the Il Gelato di San Crispino while we were visiting the Trevi Fountain. We were told that most of the restaurants around the Fountain were tourists traps, but one person suggested we try the gelato San Cripinos, we did and we're glad we took his advice.

Palazzo del Freddo di Giovanni Fassi

0.54 mi from Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore

This place considers itself the oldest Gelato factory in Rome - it is one of the best. A huge place with more than a fair amount of gelato for the price with a wide selection of flavors. Can get busy with locals and tourists but worth the wait.

    Er Buchetto

Great spot for truly Roman porchetta panini. Er Buchetto is cheap, the service is prompt and it's located conveniently close to Termini. I feel like I had a different experience from those who recommended it to me, as they described getting freshly sliced and curated porchetta panini. While my panino was tasty, he simply handed it to me from a ...

Up for some crazy gelato flavors? Then this is the place to go! I had the deep chocolate and the basil/honey/walnut (yes, basil) and both were delicious. I had a hard time choosing though since the range is so wide from classic mint and chocolate to lobster and vodka (no really!). A bit hard to find as it's in a ...

Great little family owned restaurant in Rome. The atmosphere is nice and cozy and service is good (which sometimes is a challenge in Italy). Super popular place to eat Roman food, with some innovative twists on classics like pistacchio and pomodoro. The food is delicious, mid priced, and if you go early or late you won't have to wait. In the Monti neighborhood, it's a close place to Termini to get some decent food.

Delicious! Panella is dedicated to the art of fine bread making, so naturally, their store is filled with savory and sweet delights. I ordered a slice of pizza (zucchini flowers and anchovies, from what I can remember) and a piece of supplì (fried risotto balls similar to arancini di riso). The total was 6,70€. Not too shabby, given that the ...
