Has a great view of Paris from the steps of Sacré-Coeur. The inside of the church is also breathtaking. The ceilings were made of mosaics. Absolutely stunning! Wish I could take pictures inside of the church. The Sacré-Coeur is constructed of stone from Château-Landon, which is known for it's high content of calcite. In damp weather calcite leaches out of the stone, keeping the appearance of the monument chalky white. A must see in Paris!

The Basilica of Sacred Heart has an interesting story. It was constructed during the 19th Century during the aftermath of the failed Paris Commune of 1871. The conservative government wanted to build a symbol of traditional forces in French live and chose to do so in Montmartre, the most radical of French neighborhoods. The structure itself commands the hill overlooking much of Paris and is a popular tourist destination. If you make the climb, spare a thought for the thousands of radicals who were gunned down by the government in this same neighborhood.

This Roman Catholic basilica is located at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point in the city. Take in mass or sit outside to watch the subset amidst the crowds to enjoy a breath taking key phenomenal view of all of Paris spilled out before you!

A beautiful church atop the highest hill in Paris. Sacre-Coeur is free and open to the public. Inside you'll find beautiful mosaics of religious scenes and figures. The city view from the front steps of the church is magnificent as well. A great panoramic view of the city. Below the steps, there are musicians and artists hanging out, entertaining visitors for tips.

This is a great place to go for the view of Paris and the view of the tourists and locals. Go during the day or a night for different view. Take the funicular up if the walking is too much. Watch out for the street people they can be very aggressive.

Too cool for school. The church itself is beautiful, but the whole space around it... you could spend an entire day here and not get bored. Good restaurants (but way too crowded cuz of all the tourists), amazing artists doing caricatures or writing your name on a grain of rice, cheapest souvenirs in town, and the best performance art you can shake a stick at. Last time I was there, a couple dudes were doing flips and kicks, and eventually one of them was dancing to hip hop music. Upside down. On one hand. I kid you not. Un. Frickin. Believable.

This church is beautiful inside and out, but the best experience is climbing to the top of its iconic dome. Amazing views!

Massive white church atop montmartre. It is impossible to miss. Sacre-Coeur is a popular tourist destination and with good reason. The building is quite impressive and the views of the city from the church are also worthwhile. The church is in a neo-Romanesque-byzantine style which gives it a unique and almost eastern European or Greek feel.

Beautiful view of Paris. Take a sit at the stairs and listen to great music from street artists.

Description

Sacre-Coeur Basilica is a Roman Catholic church in Paris, France. It is located at the peak of Montmartre, the highest point in Paris. The basilica is one of Paris’ most iconic images, with its stark white silhouette visible from many points in the city. The entire building is constructed of travertine, a type of stone that produces calcite, a mineral that gives the church its pure white color. A beautiful mosaic and artfully constructed crypts are of particular interest within the church. Services are held regularly in the church, and tourists are expected to dress and behave appropriately at all times.
