The Sacre Coeur is a beautiful church in Montmartre that provides a wonderful skyline view of Paris. The exterior and interior of the church is majestic to look at and is a visual apex after wandering around Montmartre.

Definitely my favorite structure in all of Paris. Careful though... we paid 5 euro to go down and visit the crypt, went through a turnstile and found ourselves climbing 325 steps to the top of the dome. The view was absolutely worth it, but some warning would have been nice!

A wonderful alternative to the Eiffel Tower for those, like me, that don't like heights, but still want to get a panoramic view of the city.

This stunning masterpiece could almost be mistaken for the Taj Mahal. Overrun with tourists but a must-see. The views of Paris from the grounds are as much a draw as the basilica itself.

I'm a very big fan of the church and the hill on which it sits. I am not so much a fan of the pick-pockets etc. on the walk up.

The Sacré-Cœur Basilica was designed by Paul Abadie. Construction began in 1875 and was finished in 1914. It was consecrated after the end of World War I in 1919.

We did a Gothic church tour so Sacre Coeur built in the 1800s seemed disappointing in terms of its history and it is much more attractive on the outside than the interior. Nevertheless, the hilltop position affords some great views of Paris.

Go early in the morning before the tour buses arrive in droves and the con artists mar the steps.
You'll be sitting there with locals including French grandmas, parishioners with jogging suits on and business people who have come to quietly pray before work. Take some time to sit and ponder the beautiful mosaic in the apse and enjoy the quiet and solitude. The view is amazing in the morning as well.

The Sacre-Coeur is a Roman Catholic church / basilica at the summit of Montmartre. It's gorgeous and sits on a hill in Montmartre making it a perfect place to see the whole city of Paris!

Построенный на вершине Монмартра собор потрясает и впечатляет! Деньги на его строительство собирали обычные парижане в память многочисленных жертв смутного времени парижской коммуны.

This my favorite building in Paris for two reasons: it's beautiful and well located in the greatest part of Paris (near Montmartre).

Tip for you: When you go up there to the Sacre-cour, don't stop. Some of the local guys will try to sell you expensive bullshit and be carefull, they are GOOD.

A lot of folks head to Montmartre for the art and its bohemian history, but at the peak lies a beautiful church with a great view of the rest of Paris below. The interior is beautiful and it seems to be frequented for its original intention (mass) rather than just a museum of art history. More tourists flock outside the church for the view from the steps. The public bathrooms nearby are pretty gross, so empty your bladders before climbing up here!

Absolutely beautiful. This church stands proudly and looks powerful atop a steep hill overlooking the city. If you don't come for the church itself you must at least come for the views.

Really beautiful, although somehow I managed to find this spot the back way, so I missed the whole awe factor by not approaching from the front and coming up the stairs. Maybe next time.

Maybe a steep climb for some but it is worth the effort.
Look for a "Boulangerie" in the plazza, where they sell an awarded "baguette".

Gorgeous! I've been inside three time! Also had to take a photo with the binoculars because Amelie was one of my favorite films at the time.

Worth the trip up for the view but the church isn't very memorable. All these churches start to look the same after awhile.

Description

Sacre-Coeur Basilica is a Roman Catholic church in Paris, France. It is located at the peak of Montmartre, the highest point in Paris. The basilica is one of Paris’ most iconic images, with its stark white silhouette visible from many points in the city. The entire building is constructed of travertine, a type of stone that produces calcite, a mineral that gives the church its pure white color. A beautiful mosaic and artfully constructed crypts are of particular interest within the church. Services are held regularly in the church, and tourists are expected to dress and behave appropriately at all times.
