In the middle of picturesque Somerset, Bath is built on England’s only natural hot springs. People have been coming here for centuries to “take the waters” beginning with the Romans who dubbed it Aquae Sulis and bequeathed us the spectacular Roman baths still in use today. The city is also characterized by Georgian architecture, namely numerous picturesque houses built during its tenure as a center of upper class Georgian society using Bath stone, an elegant, grey green natural resource. In fact, Bath is so historically significant that the entire city has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. Today, Bath is as full of posh English culture as ever, with independent shops and restaurants lining the streets, and theatres which attract companies of international renown, while the Royal Crescent, an elegant semicircle of 18th century homes set upon a giant lawn, never fails to enchant. Bisected by the River Avon and set on the coast, Bath is packed with rosy-cheeked English charm, and while it may keep its nose slightly in the air, it is rarely too busy for a “cuppa.”

Forget the red brick that dominates most of Britain and head to this beautiful Georgian town that was once a spa during Roman towns. It's perfect for walking around and has some amazing architecture and history. Don't miss the costume museum!

After living in London, Bath is a refreshing change of pace. It's the English countryside at it's best, along with a luxurious spa and plenty of shops. Very easy to walk around and see the city.

Lived in Bath for two years - for tourists the Roman Baths and Abbey are great and it is a pretty city. It just don't got no soul.

Amazing get away... this trip was a Christmas gift from my husband while we lived in London. We stayed at the hotel with a spa and a beautiful English garden. My favorite parts were: meditating in the garden after a spa treatment and having a 3 hour dinner at a French restaurant (Butterfly) filled with the locals.

Lovely town ~2 hours outside of London. Has great architecture and nice greenery. Most sights are walkable making it an easy place to simplify and relax.
