The ruins of huge brick water tanks sometimes serve as backdrops for the opera. In between shows you can tour the entire bath complex which includes the ruins of the baths, a library, and a gym. Some great mosaic floors are still intact.

It may be a husk of what it once was but it gives you a good idea of how important the baths were the sheer scale of them. Some of the mosaics are still intact but the best part is just wandering through the ruins.

It's not generally quoted in Rome's guides, and to me it's the most stunning stop. Like to call it the ancient's spa. Great to get some rest on a sunny day.

I only saw this from the road, and while amazing it's a bit hard to see well.
