Bathsheba is the main fishing village in the parish of Saint Joseph on Barbados. There are a few rum shops, restaurants and guest houses, but the draw here is the nature. The coastline is rugged and beautiful, with sweeping white beaches, huge boulders of washed up coral, and rolling waves. The Soup Bowl – the name comes from the foamy surf – is a prime surfing spot that hosts local and international competitions. The Bathsheba Pools – carved out of the inshore coral reef – are believed to have health-giving properties, and at a few feet deep, they are the perfect place to have a rum cocktail too. Bathsheba is also paradise for plant lovers: the Joe’s River tropical rainforest backs onto the village, and both the Flower Forest and Andromeda Gardens are enchanting scenic parks.
