Bavaria with region „CHIEMGAU. Bavaria's Smile.“
The region Chiemgau is called Bavaria’s smile due to its mountains and lakes, culture and nature as well as the friendliness and vitality of the people. This region lies in the Southeast of Germany only one hour away from Munich and thirty minutes away from Salzburg, where the Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born.
Hiker and biker get their money’s worth in the fresh mountain air. In Chiemgau mountain lovers can either enjoy a leisure stroll up to a catered alp or a tough hike to Chiemgau highest mountain »Sonntagshorn«, which peak rises up to nearly 2,000 meters. The region offers a variety of walking tours with different grades. After the hike smart alp maids offer self-made, organic meals and drinks. The region offers a extensive bike trail net and different theme trails such as Mozart-Trail or Pope-Benedict-Trail.
In the old-established and traditional breweries the Bavarian pub culture is still lived and cultivated. Guests and locals alike celebrate the Bavarian way of life in charming restaurants and beer gardens. The beers of Chiemgau belong to the best beers in the world due to their high standard of quality. Numerous awards honor the long-established art of brewing in this area.
The arguably most beautiful golf courses can be found in Chiemgau before the mountain setting of the Bavarian Alps. In short distance golf fans find appropriate courses for beginners and professionals. All in all seven golf courses can be found around the biggest Bavarian lake »Chiemsee«. The first and only cross-border 18-hole golf course in Europe - lying partly in Germany and Austria - can be found in »Reit im Winkl«.
Besides, the region Chiemgau offers a wide cultural spectrum. Musical festivals with international artist perform during the »Chiemgauer Music Spring Festival«. On lake Chiemsee the isle Herrenchiemsee with its castle is not only a historic site but also offers music programmes and fairy tale stories for children.
