In my experience, this is the "wild card" of the Arizmendi/Cheese Board family. Service and availability/quality of items can vary widely. The Arizmendi Bakery on Lakeshore is a better option if you have a choice. However, I still go to the Emeryville location often and go with the flow....And they take credit/debit cards.

Man oh man. I've got a new favorite restaurant in the Bay Area. Of all the upscale fine-dining restaurants I've been to, I think Commis ranks as one of the most inventive and imaginative of them all. How James Syhabout comes up with these dishes is way beyond my mental gastronomic capabilities, but what an extreme pleasure it is to ...

Good fish tacos and quesadillas. My son likes their bean and cheese burrito. You also get a nice cross section of the community to watch here. This place is on of the standard stops when my son and I stroll Piedmont.

Great place. Lots to like about this place. First of all the food is great. I usually order tapas style -- go with a few friends, order a half dozen or so small plates, and we all split everything. And pretty much everything I've had here is amazing. Super good. Really impressive. Lots of drink choices, too. Beers, wines, cocktails. ...

There are several locations of this restaurant and I like this one much more than the one in SF. There is a wait, but it's nowhere near the craziness you'll surely encounter in the city. Burmese food is really delicious, and this restaurant also serves Asian inspired cocktails! Be sure to order the famous fermented tea leaf salad and samusa ...

I was recently wandering through the Temescal Alley and came upon Doughnut Dolly and her made-to-order cream-filled sweet rolls. My choice was the lemon filling and it was delicious. Coffee is available here or at the shop across the way. Like the Doughnuts, the service and ambiance was sweet.

Southern breakfast fare with a slight hipster flair, which is a given considering the neighborhood. I honestly can't remember what I ate there, which is a bad sign, although I can't remember hating the place. I remember swatting away flies inside the restaurant, though.

Super trendy, hip place. For better or worse. I love the pizza here... sort of NY style, thin crust... just a basic slice of cheese is good. You can add any toppings you want, but I usually just go with pepperoni. Basic. Classic. Really good. And the beer selection is excellent... although pretty much what we all here in the ...

Small shop, big coffee. SubRosa is quaint and cute but don't let that fool you, the coffee is serious. The French-pressed, Four Barrel coffee is excellently brewed and pairs well with one (or ten) of the small selection of delicious pastries. And the parklet outside is the perfect setting to enjoy your cup of joe and the Oakland sunshine.

From the makers of Brown Sugar Kitchen - minus the 2 hour long wait for breakfast! Koreana Plaza is home to two buildings. The smaller one off to the side has Korean home wares, like those warm fuzzy blankets, fancy rice cookers, tea sets, electric hot pot warmers, and random kitchen and beauty items. The main building is their grocery store, complete with a hot food area. Though I still prefer Ranch 99 for my Asian ...
