Getting a reservation is tough and this place definitely comes with plenty of attitude; however, the food, service and atmosphere are excellent so it is hard not to like Beauty and Essex.
I'm a big fan of the appetizers and desserts here. Love the grilled cheese and tomato soup dumplings, chili and lime flavored corn, spicy edamame, and the flat breads. Everything we have had on both of my visits was excellent.

Beauty & Essex just oozes sexiness!
You might think that the place would be super pretentious, but it's quite the opposite. Everyone we encountered - from the hostess to our server to the bartender in the ladies' room (HELLO free flowing champagne in the women's bathroom!).
Both food and drinks were amazing. Loved the Woodford Wilson (Woodford Reserve bourbon, pineapple, lime, ginger beer, brandied vanilla cherry) and the chicken fried oysters, lobster tacos and roasted bone marrow.
We were seated in the corner table, which was perfect for seeing and being seen.
You'll want to make reservations in advance as the place is a very hot spot in the LES.
Consignment shoppers, you will LOVE the little storefront you walk through as you enter the restaurant. I found these smokin' hot gold zipper Louboutins that were a half size too small for me. They can be yours though, for only $600!

Beauty and Essex is a speakeasy restaurant located in the Lower East Side. The front part sells used vintage jewelry pieces, but get through the back door, and you'll enter into a very fancy, chic-looking restaurant.Recommended for:Nightlife Lovers

Enter through a high-end pawn shop and be prepared to be amazed. This is one of the most beautiful restaurants in NYC so bring a date to impress!

From the streets you would imagine a small store - but walk through it, step into the restaurant and immerse yourself in a decadent decor, good looking people, and great tapas style food! Loved it

In terms of atmosphere, this place is more like a bar than a restaurant. It's really loud (great playlists) and pretty fun. The food is nice - I had lots of little dishes - and the table service is good. The seater and bar staff on that night were on the wrong side of curt however.
Fun for large groups.

Beauty and Essex doesn't look like a bar. And even if you are familiar with the Speakeasy style that is often replicated in NYC (especially in LES), you won't expect such a large venue and quite the decadent interior.
For the gals, there are bubbles in the bathroom for a buck. Get in, ditch the boys and get drunk in the loo. That's what I say.
When I went, I clearly had too many of said bathroom bubbles and ended up propping myself against the bar with a burger in my hand. Even whilst inebriated, I could tell this was no run-of-the-mill burger. Juicy and luscious. Just what was needed to sober me up.
Worth dressing up for, most women had made the effort.
Go early to get a seat at the bar or alternatively book for dinner and then take it to the dance floor later

Even though Kim Kardashian and I went to the opening of this place a few months back, I never went back because it’s more downtown than I wanted. However, after being invited for a friend’s dinner, it has now become my favorite place in New York. I’m pretty much now addicted to this place; it has the best energy and the food is incredible. They had over 900 reservations the night I was there and it was on FIRE! Lots of celebs, and the tapas-style food was delicious (whipped ricotta crostini, lobster tacos). I also had the rib-eye steak three nights in a row. Make sure to stop at the pawn shop on the way out. Oh, yes, that’s right: pawn shop.
