    Shangri-la China World Hotel

    Shangri-la China World Hotel

    Class:
    11 reviews
Excellent! - 94% of guests recommend

This is more of a review of their amazing bar that has a great view of beijing! And no wonder, its on the 80th floor of the tallest building in beijing! Own and operated by the shangri-la group, the drinks are decent and the live music will remind you of a scene from lost in translation.

I am not often in the Wangfujing section of town, but when I am there, this would be the hotel of choice. Sure, you can pick the bigger and more expensive hotels around the corner, but there are a couple of things you should know about this Hilton: It is new and has less rooms then other nearby hotels. It ...

The Aman Hotel at Summer Palace

The Aman Hotel at Summer Palace

    5 reviews
Excellent! - 92% of guests recommend

This is a beautiful hotel that replicates many of the design elements of the Summer Garden that is next door (and that Aman residents can use a secret door to access without any lines). If you want to imagine the luxury of a late 1800's Chinese taipan might experience, this is it. The disadvantage of staying here is that it ...

    Red Lantern House

This is one of the most pleasant places I have ever slept into! There are two main separate buildings: make sure you reserve your ensuite room at the West Courtyard. Raffles Beijing Hotel

    Class:

This is an excellent property in a location that is very convenient to the Forbidden City. Exec Rooms are 600 square feet and feel more like small suites than the typical hotel room. They are well appointed and very comfortable. The public spaces feel a bit institutional. I'd classify the public space design as "cookie cutter" luxury. Not much in ...

Beijing Hotel Insider
This global powerhouse city is one of the most populous in the world, ringing a whopping 21 million people. Also known as Peking, and home to the world famous Forbidden City, the capital of the People’s Republic of China is a political, cultural, and educational hub in East Asia. The city’s history is over 3,000 years old and steeped in spiritual history; it is renowned for its opulent palaces, temples, parks and gardens as well as a rich culinary scene, and is therefore one of the most sought-after destinations in the world. To accommodate the more than 140 million tourists that flock to the city each year, Beijing is equipped with over 5,000 hotels ready to host everyone from backpackers to businessmen to spiritual seekers.

Beijing Hotels
Beijing is home to some of the most opulent and luxurious accommodations in the world, seeking to serve its heavy business-traveler industry well. And serve it well it does: sure, there’s the Grand Hyatt, Hilton, Shangri-la, Westin, and Crowne Plaza, all world-famous brands with world-class service. But there are more local names as well: The Aman Hotel at Summer Palace offers a secret door straight into the Summer Palace, as well as an indoor pool and swim-up bar. Fairmont Hotel offers you the pleasure of afternoon tea and a dessert hour, while the Raffles Hotel is right in the heart of the action, situated a stone’s throw from Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the Silk Market.

Beijing is also popular with backpackers, and as such has its fair share of hostels and budget lodging options. The Red Lantern House is a guesthouse in a traditional courtyard village, while the Wenjin Hotel will get you close to Google and Microsoft headquarters. The business-budget-friendly Orange Hotel brand also has several locales throughout the city, usually convenient to some of the most popular attractions.

Things to Do
There are plenty of things to do in Beijing, and many people leave wishing they had more time in the city. For starters, the city is the launching pad for the Great Wall of China, merely an hour’s drive from downtown. If you’re headed out to see the best-preserved parts of the 4,000-mile long series of walls (and you should), Commune by the Wall is an excellent choice and just what it sounds like: a village style resort with views of the Great Wall from every window.

Back in town, be sure to check out the majestic Temple of Heaven, also known as Tiantan Park or Altar of Heaven, and the largest complex of temples in China. Wander through the gardens and fountains in the Summer Palace; the imperial gardens at Beihai Park are worth a visit as well. Of course, the most popular draw in the city is Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, once forbidden to all outsiders and now filled with them. If you want to make this your homebase, hang your hat at the top-rated Peninsula Hotel, or The Emperor, which offers the best terrace view of downtown and warm cookies upon arrival.

For a break from religion and history, the best shopping can be found at Sanlitun Village and Silk Street (home to the country’s most famous export), and you can pay a visit to “Old Beijing” and its unique nightlife in the Rear Lakes District.
