It is a nice place but a bit hard to find for a first timer on hot spring. The public bath is cheap (about USD 1.50 per hour). A good place if u want to test your liking of the hot spring.Recommended for:

As a Chinese-American in Taiwan, I got a lot of stares since I look local, but I act totally American. Unfortunately, I didn't realize there were so many rules about going form the hot to cold pools - everyone stared, but I was boiling hot. Poor husband just boiled in the hot tub, too intimidated by everyone to do anything but.
Interesting experience, but I wish they would have written more etiquette for foreigners.Recommended for:

My first hot springs experience was so relaxing! There are 4 different pools of different temperatures! The hot springs are opened from 7am- 10pm every night! It's not too crowded and the cost is only 40 Taiwan dollars for as long as you want! You must try!Recommended for:

Forget about expensive Spa massages (well a Spa is still pretty cheap in Taipei^^) and get on the MRT up to Danshui and make sure to change the train in Beitu for the Xin Beitou MRT station. The hot springs are right next to the station and offer your 3 different pools. If you don't have a swim suit you can actually buy one over there.
Take your time to relax, it is so worth it

Right off the Xin Beitou MRT station, Beitou hot springs is right next to the Hot Spring museum.
This is my only hot spring experience so I can't really compare it to other springs, but for a first time it was a really fun and relaxing experience. There are three levels of pools, hottest being on top and cooler towards the bottom. In addition to the hot springs, there are cold water pools to the side where you can cool off if it gets too hot for you.
Don't have a swim suit? No worries, they sell suits there for pretty cheap. As well as popsicles made from hot spring water. (Not the same water the people sit in of course)
After my time soaking, i felt really refreshed afterwards. Highly recommended!
