When I first moved to the San Francisco Bay Area from Houston in 1984 (has it really been that long ago?), Compared to Texas, I thought $650/Month was an outrageous price to pay from rent, but I got used to that and the cool view from my hill side window. I'd walk down to the El Camino to shop and enjoy the proximity of other Peninsula opportunities. Occasionally, I stop by and see how my first California Home Town is doing.

Belmont was originally part of the Rancho de las Pulgas, for which one of its main roads (Alameda de las Pulgas). Belmont was incorporated in 1926 and is home to about 25,000 residents.

This quirky town on the Peninsula generates more than its share of news, and if you get a Belmontian talking about local politics, plan to spend an hour or two before their passions cool. The town garnered national attention when it became the first to outlaw smoking in all apartments, condominiums, businesses, and parks. The city council goes nearly apoplectic over whether to allow someone to cut ... read more
down a tree, or what to do about the lady who keeps painting words all over her house. The town has a couple of historic buildings, including the landmark Ralston Hall on the Notre Dame de Namur University campus, and a building from the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exhibition on Belmont Avenue. Belmont has some good restaurants (Devil's Canyon Brewing Company is among its most popular) and beautiful hiking in the hills above town.
