Beresford Arms Hotel and Suites is a classic hotel located just steps from some of my favorite bars and restaurants in the city, while still maintaining its distance from the madhouse that is going out on a Friday night in San Francisco.
While the service is friendly, what really struck me was the great period decor. From the expansive lobby to the cute bedrooms, it’s a bit like time travel. Bathrooms are spacious and wide, and they felt very clean and modern.
As for great perks, the free continental breakfast, complimentary wine reception (such a nice addition) and free Wi-Fi can’t be beat.
Union Square is just four blocks to the east, but you won’t have to head too far for a great bite to eat or a fashionable drink. Just head to Geary Street one block south and you’ll be rewarded with some of San Francisco’s best cheap dining and drinking options. Chic bars like Rye, Bourbon and Branch, and Tradition (my favorite) are within walking distance. Definitely check those out!

The Beresford Arms is a charming Old San Francisco kind of hotel. The rooms are clean, roomy, and appointed with old-fashioned furniture (parts could use a little updating in places – like a chipped mirror in the bathroom, but for the most part everything is charming and well-maintained).
There’s breakfast in the morning and wine and cheese in the afternoon served in the hotel’s pretty incredible, elegantly ornate lobby. The hotel is close to Union Square and the cable car turnaround, though definitely outside the high-end hotel and shopping zone. It’s also not far from its sister hotel, the Hotel Beresford, which has an English pub, but I’d recommend heading to Geary and getting a seasonal Old Fashioned at Swig (in front of the fire, if it’s a foggy day).Recommended for:Local Culture

Beresford Arms is stunningly beautiful. Dramatic chandeliers, crown molding, and a lush and welcoming lobby -- It's the perfect classy and non-chain hotel that's located blocks from Union Square/ Downtown, and all of the cable car lines. Staff members were very friendly. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, complimentary breakfast is served from 7-10am, and they have complimentary wine/tea/crackers from 4-6pm. That's definitely a nice touch and not common. Guestrooms feel modern, bright, and clean, with a touch of classic elegance. Valet parking is available to guests, but if you happen to stay here, you're conveniently located to multiple bus lines, and BART, so getting around the city is a snap. Tons of local eateries, bars, and clubs are within walking distance, but the party doesn't extend too close to the hotel since it’s further up on the hill.
